BLUE NOTE CAFÉ TOKYO

Good evening!

Tonight I found a new way to enjoy each and every moment of my gift of life at the Blue Note Tokyo!

A friend of mine invited my wife and I to attend a concert at the Blue Note Café one of the première music venues in Tokyo (Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku), Japan. We went there to see an R&B Funk band from Oakland, California called Tower of Power who has been performing together since 1968.  The name of their show this evening was called “The Great American Soulbook.” which is also the name of a CD they released earlier this year. They played a few of their original songs and an a few R&B classics by other artists like “Me and Mrs. Jones” by Billy Paul, “Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel” and a four song tribute to the late James Brown (“The Godfather of Soul”). They concluded with the R&B classic slow jam,” You’re Still a Young Man.”

It had been one of my goals to attend a concert at the Blue Note Tokyo while I am living here in Japan. About two months ago a new friend of mine asked me if I had heard of a group called “Tower of Power” and if I would be interested in hearing them perform live at the Blue Note Tokyo. He told me that his friend played keyboard for the band and he could add my wife and I to the guest list! Of course I was very excited and graciously accepted his invitation to attend!

It was a memorable experience to attend a show at the legendary Blue Note Tokyo with its’ amazing acoustics. We had a couple of drinks (I drank soft drinks of course) and danced to, sung along with and sat and listened to about an hour and a half of old school funk and R&B music! Additionally, I had an opportunity to meet Bobby Valentine a former player and manager in Major League Baseball and the current manager of the Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan’s Pacific League. We had a very enjoyable evening!

That’s all for now! Please take care, stay positive and have a great day and or an enjoyable evening!
